Australian Tennis star Nick Kyrgios pleads guilty of assault charge imposed on him

In a shocking piece of news for the Australian Tennis, the star right-handed back backhand Nick Kyrgios has petitioned guilty to assault complaint thrown on him by his ex-girlfriend. The opponent's lawyer claimed in court that the accused physically assaulted his ex-girlfriend.

The 27-year-old was presented in a court of Canberra on Friday, the 3rd of February. He was seen coming to court with a support system due to a knee injury that also forced him to stay out of the recently concluded Australian Open in Melbourne.

He was accompanied by his present girlfriend and her mother while heading to the court for the hearing.

“There’s only so much I can control and I’m taking all the steps and dealing with that off the court,” said Kyrgios earlier while talking about the charges levied against him.

In the recent development of events, the defense lawyers have appealed that it all may have happened due to the issues of mental health with the 27-year-old.

Kyrgios suffered from recurrent major depression - Psychologist Sam Borenstein

“Kyrgios suffered from recurrent major depression which produced thoughts of self-harm and suicidal ideation. The player suffered strong episodes of depression, and he had periods of drug and alcohol use,” said psychologist Sam Borenstein.

So, the latest media reports have learned that Kyrgios has escaped a conviction on the grounds of mental health.

Apart from this, the Canberra court judge came up with an argument that; “Kyrgios was not convicted because the offense was less than serious for an ordinary attack and that it was not premeditated, calling it a single act of stupidity’.”
