Ever since the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Jay Shah made clear of his opinion to shift the Asia Cup 2023 venue from Pakistan to a neutral country, things have not been the same between the Indian cricket board and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). To add more, former PCB chief Ramiz Raja threatened not to travel to India to take part in the 50-over World Cup if the continental tournament gets shifted from the country.

However, things took a turn when Najam Sethi took over as the new boss of the PCB as he clarified his stand to play against all countries without much hustle. On February 5, Sunday reports emerged claiming that the ACC meeting in the presence of chiefs from both boards got tense and India made clear their stand to not travel to Pakistan.

Anguished by the same, the PCB top brass is planning to skip the multinational tournament set to take place in India later this year. It remains to be seen if the Cricket’s governing body would interfere and resolve the issue, although one could predict that it was all to do with the continued political rift between the two nations.

Will Asia Cup 2023 happen at a neutral venue?

That being said, it remains to be seen if the continental tournament would happen at a neutral venue. In all likelihood, if it gets shifted to a neutral venue, it would be the United Arab Emirates as they are the front runners to host the tournament. The previous edition of the Asia Cup 2022 took place in the UAE as well and the Men in Blue failed to make a cut to the finals.

On the other hand, it is also likely that the tournament might be postponed to a later date or by two years to avoid things getting worse. If at all the Pakistani team fail to make it to India to play in the 50-over World Cup, it would be a disastrous move as their reputation might take a big hit.
