The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced a 20-member squad for the forthcoming tour of New Zealand. The tour includes three One Day Internationals and three T20s. After multiple changes in the schedule, Bangladesh will finally depart for New Zealand on February 24.
Bangladeshi left-arm spinner Taijul Islam is out of the squad for the New Zealand series. He was included in the team against West Indies but did not play a single game. The spinner last played a limited-overs match for Bangladesh in March 2020, against Zimbabwe.
The selection committee has included Mosaddek Hossain, Mohammad Naim, and Al-Amin Hossain in the squad. Shariful Islam gets his first international call. Hasan Mahmud and Mahedi Hasan have also earned places in the team among the youngsters.
Shakib Al Hasan out of the New Zealand tour
Shakib Al Hasan will miss the entire New Zealand tour as he has been granted paternity leave. The all-rounder will not be a part of the squad for the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka as well. Shakib had written to the Bangladesh Cricket Board asking permission to play in IPL. The all-rounder was bought for INR 3.2 Crore by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
BCB has granted Shakib the leave to play the entire season of IPL. Tamim Iqbal will lead the Tigers in the ODI and T20I series.
Bangladesh will play the three ODIs on March 20, 23, and 26 in Dunedin, Christchurch, and Wellington. The T20 games will take place on March 28, 30, and April 1 in Hamilton, Napier, and Auckland, respectively.
