FC Barcelona suffered a 1-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano in a La Liga fixture on Sunday. Following defeats against Eintracht Frankfurt and Cadiz, this is Barca's third setback at home.
Going into the match, Barcelona had one of the strongest possible lineups. The offence was led by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with Ousmane Dembele and Ferran Torres on the wings. In the midfield, Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong, and Gavi were in charge, while Ronald Araujo combined with Eric Garcia in defence. Besides, Sergino Dest and Jordi Alba were on each flank.
Alvaro Garcia gave Rayo Vallecano a lead in the seventh minute into the game. On the wing, Isi Palazon grasped the ball from Alba before chipping it into the box for Garcia to score. And, as a result, the scoreline read 0-1 in the away team's favour.
Barcelona appeared to be unsettled by the goal, as they were unable to create any significant chances. However, in the 42nd minute, Barcelona had a chance to equalize when Gavi came close to scoring, but his shot struck the underside of the bar.
Palazon, in the second half, had a great chance to double Rayo Vallecano's lead but it didn't happen. Barcelona then continued to put pressure on the visitors but were unable to break past a tough defence.
FC Barcelona currently is second in the league standings with 18 wins in 33 games this season. Rayo Vallecano, on the other hand, is at the 11th position with 11 wins in 33 games this season.
