SRH skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and asked the Kings to bat first at the surface of RGIS, Hyderabad.

Batting first, Punjab posted a total of 143 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Later on, SRH comfortably chased down the total in overs and won the match by wickets. The fans also took to Twitter to react to the first win of the Sunrisers in the IPL 2023; whereas, it was also the first defeat for Punjab in the 16th edition of the tournament. Fans took to Twitter to lavish praises on Hyderabad for their performance against Punjab Kings.

Here's how fans reacted:

Speaking of the entire action of the match, Punjab Kings’ batting lineup completely crumbled against the bowling attack of Sunrisers Hyderabad. They had lost nine wickets only on the score of 88 runs in 15 overs but it was the skipper Shikhar Dhawan who kept things going for the visitors with a struggling and crucial unbeaten knock of 99 runs off 66 balls with 12 boundaries and five sixes to his name.

Other than him, it was only Sam Curran who crossed the individual mark of 20+ runs and played a knock of 22 runs off 15 balls; whereas none of the batters didn’t even touch the individual mark of double digits. On the back of Dhawan’s knock, the Kings somehow managed to post a total of 143 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Mayank Markande scalped four wickets by conceding only 15 runs in his quota of four overs. Other than him, star pacers, Umran Malik and Marco Jansen also scalped two wickets each alongside one wicket claimed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the very first ball of the match.

While chasing the target, the hosts comfortably crossed the line in 17.1 overs courtesy of Rahul Tripathi’s brilliant of 74 runs off 48 balls with 10 boundaries and three sixes. He stitched a match-winning partnership of 100 runs for the third wicket with skipper Aiden Markram (37 runs off 21 balls) to win the match by eight wickets for SRH.

Eventually, the star spinner of the night, Mayank Markande won the β€˜player of the Match award for his amazing bowling heroics in favor of the Sunrisers.
