Former legendary Caribbean batter Viv Richards has praised the former Indian skipper and the batting maestro Virat Kohli. Richards also gave him the biggest compliment when he compared Kohli to himself in terms of the batting style, character, and waiting for the ball to come to the bat.

Notably, Kohli will be back in action with Team India in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, where the Men in Blue will start their run in the tournament with their campaign opener against the arch-rivals, Pakistan, on Saturday, the 2nd of September.

"I'm in love with such individuals like Virat Kohli, who plays with passion. He's a believer and I'm a believer as well. His character, determination, fire, and aggression match Viv Richards,” said the former batting great in a show organized by the Cricket Governing Body.

“He is an individual who doesn’t back off from confrontation. Someone who can stand his ground under pressure. I love that as you can’t teach these instinctive aspects. Just like me, he loves the ball to come to him. He wants to dive and stop the runs. he is a livewire unlike some fielders, who would just dig a hole and dive in it rather than dive to stop the ball,” he added.

Furthermore, Richards also spoke about Sachin Tendulkar and counting on Virat Kohli after players like Tendulkar retired from international cricket. “I believe till the Master of Shaolin (Sachin Tendulkar) is there, you need to give him respect. Obviously, once Sachin retires, you can bank on Kohli as he is young enough and has a lot of time on his side. He will only improve and continue to get better,” said the former Caribbean great.
