The 2nd Test of the ongoing Ashes 2023 series between England and Australia was played at the Lord’s in London. The Australian team continued their dominance and defeated the Three Lions convincingly by 43 runs. With this win, the Kangaroos have taken a 2-0 lead over the English team.

Talking about the match, England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to field first, however, their decision proved wrong as the Australian batter put up a total of 416 runs in the first innings. Australia vice-captain Steve Smith smashed his 32nd Test century and helped the team to cross the 400-run mark.

In response, England manage to score only 325 runs as Australian bowlers, especially Mitchell Starc who came back to the squad after missing the first Test, displayed a brilliant performance by taking 3 wickets and helped the team to take a massive lead of 91 runs. However, the Australian team couldn’t perform well with the bat in the 2nd innings and were bundled out for 279 runs, setting a target of 371 runs for England.

Brilliant bowling performance by Australia

Chasing the target, England had a horrible start as they lost their 4 wickets on the score of just 45 runs. However, later, Ben Duckett and skipper Stokes stitched a brilliant 132-run stand for the 5th wicket. But, Hazlewood provided a much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Duckett on 83 runs and sent the English team on the back foot.

But Stokes just refused to give up and smashed a breathtaking century and scored 155 runs off 214 balls which included 9 fours and 9 sixes. But, Hazlewood, once again proved his importance as he removed Stokes in a crucial situation and made the win easy for the team. Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Hazlewood picked up 3 wickets each.

The 3rd Test of the series will be played on July 6 at Headingley in Leeds and the English team will surely hope to make a comeback in order to avoid the clean sweep that too on their home soil.
