The most successful batsman in the Big Bash League, Chris Lynn, has stepped down from the captaincy role at Brisbane Heat. Lynn stated that he wants to focus on his batting for the time being. He is already the highest run-scorer of the Big Bash League. The 31-year-old has amassed 2,790 runs at an average and strike rate of 37.20 and 151.05, respectively. Chris Lynn has led Brisbane Heat in 48 T20s across four seasons. This year was his second stint as a full-time skipper. Chris Lynn missed six matches in the league stage after injuring his hamstring while attempting a running catch before the start of a game.
Wicketkeeper Jimmy Peirson is the front-runner for the captaincy role
Lynn's decision was quite shocking for everyone as the batsman was the side's leading run-scorer last season, scoring 458 runs. He led his team Brisbane Heat to the semi-finals. Apart from consistently scoring runs at the top, Chris Lynn has also scored the greatest number of maximums in the BBL tournament. The Australian has solidified his reputation as one of the most dangerous hitters in the world presently. While making the announcement to quit the captaincy, Chris Lynn got in touch with Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson after returning from the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Queensland CEO appreciated Chris Lynn and thanked him for his services as the captain of the team. Svenson felt Chris Lynn's decision was indeed a selfless one, and he just thought about the franchise performing well in the forthcoming seasons. After Lynn's decision, Wicketkeeper Jimmy Peirson is the front-runner for the role. The wicket-keeper batsman had impressed when he was stand-in skipper for the injured Lynn for part of last summer. Having been soundly defeated in the opening two matches of BBL|10 under Lynn's leadership, the Heat's season turned when Jimmy Peirson took over the captaincy. The franchise won three of its five matches under the captaincy of Jimmy Pierson. The team's two losses at that time were by margins of just one run and two runs.
