Amidst all the speculations regarding the new Test captain, BCCI have handed the reins of the Test team to Rohit Sharma, who is now the India skipper in all formats. Virat Kohli, former India skipper, stepped down as Test captain following a Test series loss to South Africa.
Rohit was likely to take over the leadership from Kohli as he was the Test vice-captain. However, a few reports suggested that BCCI want split captaincy thus may name KL Rahul as skipper. There were also murmurs about Rishabh Pant being named as Test captain. However, all the speculations have been put to rest now.
Meanwhile, the selection committee has announced the squad for the Sri Lanka series. The teams are set to lock horns in three T20Is and two Tests. The T20I series will kick off on 24th February, while the Test matches will start on March 4. The Test squad features three uncapped players in the form of KS Bharat, Priyank Panchal and Sourabh Kumar. However, the big development is that senior batters Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have been dropped from the team. Both players were going through a dry run and there were questions on their place. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja is back after recovering from the injury, while Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah have returned to the team. KL Rahul will miss the series owing to an injury.
As for the T20I squad, Sanju Samson is included in the team, while Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravi Bishnoi have been retained. Virat Kohli has been given a break.
