Starting on the 16th of June, team India would set to play a solitary test against England in Bristol. It will be followed by three ODIs being played on 27th and 30th June, and 3rd July. The first match will be played in Bristol. The other two matches will be played at Taunton and Worcester respectively.
An 18-member squad led by Mithali Raj has been announced for the Test and ODIs. Harmanpreet Kaur is selected to be the vice-captain. Opportunities to some new faces have also been provided in the longest format of the game. Experienced pacer Shikha Pandeya has made it to the squad. Teen batting wonder Shafali Verma has also been selected in all the squad. Sneh Rana and Indrani got called up because of their impressive performance in the National One day competition. On the other hand, C Prathyusha and Monica Patel have been dropped from the squad. Rajeshwari Gayakwad, the left-arm spinner, missed out because of an injury.
India women’s team has a winning record against South Africa
The India Women’s Team last played a test match in 2014 in Mysore against South Africa. India won that by 34 runs and an innings. Seven players out of the playing eleven in that game, have been picked for the England Test and ODI squad.
3 T20I matches will follow the ODIs. These matches are going to be played on 9th July, 11th July and 15th July respectively.
A 17-member team has been announced for the shortest format of the game. This side will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur with Smriti Mandhana acting as her deputy. Northants is going to host the opening match on July 9. The other two encounters are scheduled to be played at Hove and Chelmsford respectively.
Under the guidance of Ramesh Powar, the newly appointed head coach, this will be the team’s first overseas tour. The Madan Lal-led Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) interviewed the potential applicants and settled on Powar’s candidature.
