The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has tested positive for COVID-19. Ganguly is currently in isolation, away from family and friends in Kolkata. "BCCI President and former India captain Sourav Ganguly admitted to hospital after testing positive for Covid-19,” BCCI source said according to Mint.
As soon as the RT PCR reports came positive, Ganguly was rushed to Woodlands Hospital where he was given medications for the same. The former India skipper is stable and undergoing isolation. The BCCI President is fully vaccinated. Earlier, Ganguly's brother Snehasish Ganguly had also tested positive for COVID-19 in 2021.
Ganguly has faced some health issues in 2021. Earlier, the 49-year-old was admitted to the hospital twice and underwent angioplasty after complaining of chest pain.
The BCCI president was recently involved in a controversy surrounding India's ODI captaincy. Ganguly had said that he requested Virat Kohli to not step down from the T20I captaincy in order to lead the ODI team. However, Kohli contradicted his statements and said he had no communication with anyone regarding the ODI captaincy. He also revealed that he was informed an hour ago about his sacking. Notably, BCCI had named Rohit Sharma as ODI captain.
Ganguly was slammed for doing politics with Kohli. After keeping mum for a while, Ganguly said BCCI will appropriately deal with the matter. “No comments, BCCI is dealing with it. I said no comments and will not say anything at this point in time,” said Ganguly. “Let’s not take this further, I have nothing to say. It is the matter of the BCCI and they will only deal with it,” stated Ganguly in a separate interview.
