The governing body for cricket in India will try to seek one month's extension to decide on conducting the T20 World Cup in India. BCCI is going to request the International Cricket Council (ICC) board when they hold a virtual meeting on Tuesday. A complete layout of essential issues, including the Future Tours & Programmes for the 2023-31 cycle and tax issue with the Indian cricket board, will be discussed in the meeting.
The Indian cricket board also confirmed that the remainder of IPL 2021 is going to be held in the UAE in September-October. The 14th season of the Indian Premier League was suspended on May 4 due to positive Covid-19 cases in bio-bubbles. While the venue for IPL 2021 has been confirmed, BCCI is likely to take some time before finalizing a window for the IPL. A source stated that the BCCI is looking for a 25-day window to host the remaining matches of IPL 2021.
ICC board to meet virtually on Tuesday to discuss essential points
Earlier, it was decided that current BCCI president Sourav Ganguly will attend the meet in person. However, now he will be present virtually and will only leave for the UAE on Wednesday. Sourav Ganguly will have discussions on the organization of IPL with the Emirates Cricket Board. There are no tangible outcomes anticipated during the meeting. But, after July 1, the BCCI is going to organize another SGM. The ICC might announce its final decision during its annual conference that will start on July 18.
Also, the future of the ICC WTC is going to be discussed, considering it was shortened due to the pandemic. ICC chairman Greg Barclay, a few months back, had talked about the future of the WTC. However, a lot of people believe that its prospects cannot be judged in a year. The ICC will also discuss a strategy for the game's global growth with a particular focus on women's cricket.
