BCCI to allow Under-23 players to participate in The Hundred

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is likely to permit its U23 players to participate in England's The Hundred. The Hundred is a new 100-ball cricket tournament. It will see prominent cricketers (both men and women) playing in the competition later this year in the English summer. The first season of the tournament will take place this year. It has also been known that it is unlikely that the BCCI will allow players to participate in the maiden edition of the competition as time is a constraint. Also, with the Covid-19 cases increasing across the world, it is unlikely that the BCCI will send cricketers this year. There is also no official confirmation yet from both the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as well as the BCCI regarding this matter.

IPL 2022 to feature 10 teams, 2 new franchises to be auctioned in May

Sourav Ganguly and other BCCI officials also confirmed that the two new IPL teams would be auctioned in May. A senior BCCI member stated that 10 IPL teams would roll on from next year. The bidding process and finalisation of the new teams will be completed by the month of May this year. Once the IPL franchises are finalised, respective teams can start their operational work, which takes considerable time.

For the unversed, the IPL 2022 edition is set to see the amplification of the league, with two new additional franchises. However, many enigmas remain regarding which cities will come forward to form the two new IPL teams shortly. Even in the 2011 season, IPL was a 10-team affair with Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Pune Warriors' inclusion. However, the next edition saw Kochi Tuskers' termination following their breach of BCCI's terms and conditions. The decision to thrive IPL was taken following the highly successful IPL 2020 edition, which took place in UAE amid strict COVID-19 protocols.

The 14th season of the Indian Premier League is presently going on. The much-awaited event started on April 9, and the final will be played on May 30. The officials have decided to conduct the games in six cities: Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore, and Ahmedabad. The playoffs and final are going to take place at the newly built Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad.
