The Board of Control for Cricket in India is set to ask ECB to arrange two warm-up matches for Team India ahead of the England series. The Indian men's cricket team is going to play five Test matches against England. The series against England in their home ground begins on August 4. The opening Test of the series is going to be held at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Shockingly, India defeated England at the same venue when they last met back in the year 2018. The Lord's, Headingley, Kennington Oval, and Old Trafford are the venues for the remaining four matches of the Test series.

BCCI to request ECB to arrange for two warm-up matches

After the recent loss, Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli publicly expressed his disappointment over the lack of First-Class games. Addressing the matter, the BCCI is going to request the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to arrange for at least two warm-up matches for the Indian team. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, all the cricket boards have decided on unique approaches for the preparations of their teams for away games. When the Indian cricket team reached Southampton for the WTC final, they played only one intra-squad match to prepare for the final clash.

The preparations fell short as the Black Caps defeated the Indian team in the ICC WTC final. In the post-match press conference, Virat Kohli accepted that the team had asked for First Class games but were denied. Both boards had earlier decided to postpone India A tour of England in the wake of the coronavirus situation. The BCCI is yet to approach the English Cricket Board over the matter formally. A couple of 3-day or 4-day games could be arranged ahead of the start of the Test series against England. After India’s defeat against New Zealand, the team has been given a three-week break before they regroup ahead of the first Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. All the players have been given permission of travelling, but will be required to report back immediately when called upon.
