The BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal clarifies why the Indian cricket team is going to tour Sri Lanka in July. Team India will play against New Zealand in the final of the maiden season of the WTC. The most-awaited Test series of the year is going to commence from June 18 to June 22. It will then be followed by a 5-match series against England, starting from August 4. In between the India tour of England, a different Indian cricket team will head to Sri Lanka for a limited-overs series. The series is most likely to take place in July. Considering the strict quarantine rules in England, team India will not be able to head back home and again travel back to the country for the 5-match Test series.
The BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal talked about the importance of the Indian tour to Sri Lanka for a limited-overs format. Dhumal stated that the Indian cricket board made the call as the Sri Lanka tour was a part of the Future Tours Programme. Thus, it is crucial to conduct all the postponed series so that the cricket board can solve the financial crisis.
The bench strength that allowed the officials to plan two international tours at the same time: Arun Dhumal
Dhumal highlighted that Team India has excellent bench strength. Thus, this has allowed the officials to plan two international tours at the same time. The Indian selection committee felt that with many Indian white-ball specialists available to play, they could form a different squad for the Sri Lankan tour.
Earlier, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly hinted that the Indian team will be picked to sort out the selection puzzles ahead of the T20 World Cup. The mega event is slated to be held in India later this year. With mainstay players out of the playing XI, the Indian cricket board could hand debuts to budding IPL stars. This includes players like Devdutt Padikkal, Varun Chakravarthy, and Rahul Tewatia. In addition, young opening batsman Prithvi Shaw could also be in this white-ball tournament. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan might also get an opportunity to cement their place in the team.
