The first day of the third Ashes 2023 Test between England and Australia ended up on an interesting note as the Aussies scalped three wickets, conceding a score of just 68 runs. Earlier, the hosts England won the toss and chose to bowl first to try and take advantage of the overcast conditions. Batting first, the World Test Champions got bundled up on the score of 263 runs, courtesy of Mitchell Marsh’s stunning knock of 118 runs.

England looked quite stable when their opening batters Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett were in the middle, but Aussie skipper Pat Cummins spoiled their party and scalped the wickets of Duckett and Harry Brook in the last session of the day.

Speaking of Duckett’s dismissal, it was back of a length delivery, that took the leading edge to go in wicketkeeper Alex Carey’s hands. Carey made a dive onto his left side to finish the job for Australia. But for a moment ball it seemed that the ball had gone out of Carey’s hands, but his mouth came in between to hold the ball.

Subsequently, the Aussie wicketkeeper’s effort made the former England skipper and commentator, Eoin Morgan come up with an interesting remark on air. "Oh, that's definitely a smooch. behave yourself, Alex Carey," Morgan hilariously said on air. The video of the same is doing rounds on social media.

Here’s the video:

Speaking of the action of the Headingley Test so far, England had lost 3 wickets for a score of 68 runs in 19 overs at the end of day 1 in response to Australia’s first-innings total of 263 runs. Former team skipper Joe Root was there in the middle on the score of 19 runs, alongside wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow, who was on 1 run at the time of stumps on the third day.

Earlier in the first innings, the star England pacer Mark Wood made a fiery comeback in Test cricket and claimed a five-wicket haul. He scalped 5 wickets while conceding only 34 runs in 11.4 overs.
