Ben Stokes, the English star cricketer, has paid a heartfelt tribute to his father Ged on Tuesday after he passed away fighting a long battle with brain cancer. Ged Stokes was 65 years old.
Ged Stokes played for New Zealand in the Rugby League. He played and coached Workington Town. While he was in South Africa this year in January to cheer for his son during the tour of England, doctors diagnosed him with the illness. Ahead of England’s Boxing Day Test against the Proteas, Stokes senior was admitted to hospital in Johannesburg.
Ged had endured a brain bleed at that time, which needed surgery. He was diagnosed with cancer after he returned to New Zealand. Ben Stokes flew to New Zealand in August halfway through the Test Series against Pakistan spent time with his father and family.
In October 2020, Ben Stokes finally resumed his cricketing duties by joining Rajasthan Royals for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. He's currently in South Africa with the England team for the cricket series. England and South Africa have recently played three T20Is. Both teams were preparing to play a three-match ODI series. However, the management had to call it off due to an outbreak of COVID-19 in the bio-secure bubble.

On Wednesday, Ben Stokes came to Instagram and paid homage to his dear father. After posting a couple of pictures, he has written in his message that he loves his father forever and always. He has mentioned that he knows that both of them are in different places. However, Stokes knows that his father would always have a smile on his face, and this thought makes him smile every time he thinks about his father.
Earlier, the English all-rounder has stated frequently that his father’s rugby-playing career has influenced Ben’s achievements on the cricket field.
