In a great piece of news for Ben Stokes’ fans, the southpaw has revealed that he is recovering well from the surgery he had undergone to fix his injured finger. Stokes had suffered a broken finger during the first leg of Indian Premier League (IPL) and was subsequently ruled out of the tournament. He underwent surgery and returned to professional cricket in the T20 Blast for Durham.
He then led England in the ODI series against Pakistan after the England contingent was forced into isolation following multiple COVID-19 cases in the hosts' camp. Soon after, the southpaw stunned the cricket fraternity and announced that he is taking an indefinite break from all forms of cricket due to mental health issues. During the Pakistan series, Stokes struggled with the injured finger and recently underwent another surgery. However, it seems the results are much better now.
Stokes took to Twitter and revealed that he is now able to hold the bat properly for the first time since April.
“12th April Broken Finger, 11th October first time since breaking being able to get it around the handle,” Stokes wrote while sharing the picture of his holding a bat. The comment section got flooded in no time as fans were delighted seeing the all-rounder on the way to recovery.

ECB also released a statement and revealed that Stokes had two screws and a tissue removed from the index finger. “Stokes had two screws and scar tissue removed from the index finger of his left hand. He will now undergo an intensive period of rehabilitation for the next four weeks under the supervision of the ECB’s medical team,” ECB stated in the statement.
While Stokes was not picked in the England squad for the T20 World Cup, speculations were rife that he will return for the Ashes given the significance of the series. However, that was not the case to be.
