On Day 1 of the first Test in Dominica, the Indian spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja shared eight wickets between them to enable India to bowl out the West Indies for just 150. Ashwin, one of India's finest off-spinners, returned with 5/60, his 33rd five-wicket haul and fourth against the West Indies.

The hosts crumbled less than half an hour after tea. In the process, Ashwin became the third Indian spinner to reach 700 international wickets across all forms. He is the third Indian to attain the desired milestone across formats, behind Anil Kumble (956) and Harbhajan Singh (711).

Thought it was a pretty good performance: Ravichandran Ashwin

After dismissing Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the son of West Indies cricket star Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ashwin reached another significant milestone in his career. This is not Ashwin's first dismissal of a Chanderpaul, he dismissed Shivnarine Chanderpaul during the 2011 series. Ashwin has now become the first Indian batsman to dismiss both his father and son in international cricket. Mitchell Starc and Simon Harmer, who had also managed to dismiss the Caribbean father-son combination, have joined Ashwin in this elite group.

Ashwin at the end of Day 1 stated, "Thought it was a pretty good performance. There was a bit of moisture on the pitch earlier but it started to spin later. Saw on the TV as well that it turned more later. Had to adapt early. It was a bit dry, have to get the pace right to trouble the batsmen. International cricket is all about adapting to different conditions. With so many leagues around, we can get carried away with a few performances in these leagues but international cricket is different."

He further added, "He just reverse-swept the first ball of the last over! That’s what you can expect from him. He is very vibrant, hope he goes far. From our side, we hope to keep the environment good for him."

With the West Indies restricted to 150 runs, India will try to capitalise on their advantage and develop a significant lead in the following days. As the series progresses, viewers can expect more exciting action as both teams compete for dominance on the cricket pitch.
