On 12 January 2023, the Men in Blue took on Sri Lanka in the second game of the ongoing three-match ODI series. The match took place in Eden Gardens, Kolkata. However, the home side were coming off after a comfortable 67-run victory in the series opener. Virat Kohli was the player of the match for his knock while bowlers like Mohammed Siraj performed well.
However, Siraj had a good game in that clash. He took two wickets for 30 runs in seven overs. In the recent series, India missed the services of their prime bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah for injuries. Hence, Siraj has developed himself to perform well for the team in the absence of that prima pacer.
Mohammed Siraj took the first wicket of Sri Lanka in the second ODI
In the three-match ODI series in Bangladesh, Mohammed Siraj took six wickets in three matches. Then, in the two-match Test series, he took six wickets again. So, fans were happy to see him in such form in the first ODI of 2023. In the second match also, fans were hoping to see Siraj in such form only. Speaking of the match, Dasun Shanaka won the toss and opted to bat first. Team India made only one change by considering Kuldeep Yadav over Yuzbvendra Chahal.
For the visitors, debutants Nuwanindu Fernando and Avishka Fernando came out to open the innings. But, Fernando faced a vicious inswinger on the sixth ball of the sixth over. The batter had no clue and it straight hit the middle stump. The wobble-seam delivery pitched and nipped back in to take the inside edge onto the stumps. Fans also went crazy after seeing such a top-class dismissal in the match. Mohammed Siraj also looked very happy after taking the catch. Now, that video has gone viral and fans have reacted to it on social media platforms.
