Kolkata

Kolkata had faced some blows at the beginning of the Indian T20 League 2023 as their regular skipper Shreyas Iyer was already ruled out of the tournament due to a lower back injury. Later on, the Bangladesh all-rounder, probably an asset for Kolkata, also pulled back from the tournament due to personal reasons.

Now, in a recent line of events, the franchise has roped in senior England batter Jason Roy for the remaining part of the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League 2023. They have signed the veteran right-hander for an amount of INR 2.8 crores. Notably, he had registered in a mini-auction on a base price of INR 1.5 crores but unfortunately, he went unsold during the mini-auction ahead of the tournament.

Subsequently, a section of cricket fans also reacted to this news with a lot of reactions and responses on the micro-blogging site Twitter.

Here’s how fans reacted:

Earlier, the 32-year-old Durban-born England batter had appeared in the Indian T20 League for other teams including the likes of Delhi, Gujarat, and Hyderabad. Interestingly, it is the second time when Roy will be appearing for Kolkata in the cash-rich Indian franchise T20 tournament.

Speaking of his performance in the Indian T20 League, he has played 13 matches in the tournament so far since his debut five years back in the year 2017. In these matches, he has scored 329 runs with an average of 29.91 including two half-centuries to his name.

Here’s a look at the Kolkata squad for the Indian T20 League 2023:
