Former South Africa skipper AB de Villiers has voiced his opinion on Team India’s concern of number 4 batters ahead of the Asia Cup 2023. Notably, the Men in Blue are struggling to place a perfect batter in this critical position of the middle order since the retirement of the former star Indian batting all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.

Yuvraj served India at number 4 for more than a decade. After his retirement from international cricket, India experimented with a lot of batters in the number 4 position. Still, no one could fit themself into that role in the major international tournaments.

Meanwhile, AB de Villiers feels that none other than Virat Kohli could fit in the number 4 position to bat for India in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. “I would be a big supporter of that. I feel Virat is the perfect No. 4, can keep the innings together and play any kind of role in the middle order,” said De Villiers in a video on his YouTube channel.

He added, “I don't know whether he would like to do that role. But at the end of the day, if the team needs you to do something and play a role, you got to put your hand up and go for it.”

The former RCB star also named the arch-rivals, India and Pakistan as two big favourites to win the Asia Cup 2023 title. India is currently the winner of the Asia Cup for the highest number of times, having 7 titles in comparison to two titles won by the Men in Green.

“Pakistan and India are the favourites to win the Asia Cup. However, Sri Lanka have the ability to upset the bigger teams,” De Villiers said.

De Villiers’ statement on Virat Kohli batting at number 4 became the point of attraction among the cricket fans. They immediately took to X to come up with different opinions, some of the fans also felt that Kohli was more suitable for the number 3 position.
