The veteran New Zealand pacer Trent Boult is not in action with the national side in international cricket for almost the last 10 months. Speaking specifically of ODI cricket, Boult made his last appearance for the Kiwi side in the Cairns ODI against Australia on the 11th of September 2022, 11 months ago.

Since then, he is continuously playing in the franchise cricket leagues after clarifying his position on availability for the national squad and in the franchise leagues as well. Notably, Boult was the key factor in New Zealand’s journey to the finals in the ODI World Cup 2019 for the second consecutive time after 2015.

Meanwhile, the 34-year-old has come up with a statement, hoping the title win for New Zealand in the 13th edition of the marquee international tournament.

“I'm just thinking about hopefully lifting something pretty shiny that we were pretty close to four years ago. That's the biggest focus,” said Boult to ESPNCricinfo.

Apart from that, he also spoke about his decision of staying away from the bubble of New Zealand cricket and deciding his priorities.

I never wanted it to be about New Zealand or franchise cricket - Trent Boult

"It wasn't an easy decision to make just over a year ago to move away from the New Zealand cricket bubble in a way. I never wanted it to be about New Zealand or franchise cricket. I just respected the fact that my career is so long and just tried to make the most of my remaining years as a bowler. Yeah, definitely as hungry as ever to still represent the country, and hopefully do something special with the guys over the next couple of months. I can't wait,” he said.

“I have always had this in the back of my mind to come back and work towards an ODI World Cup. There's history involved there. The times we have had in previous campaigns have been very exciting. So just hungry to get involved, and hopefully play a big role,” he added later.

Some of the cricket fans decoded the Kiwi pacer’s statement in various interpretations and it made them react with their opinions on the same. The fans also recalled the previous two times when the Blackcaps missed the chance to finish on the glorious side of the line.
