The defending champions Sydney Sixers had announced a big-hitting all-rounder as one of their big international signings for the upcoming BBL season. During the BBL 2020-21 season launch in Hobart, the 32-year-old said that he was eager to make an impact with the franchise.
Carlos Brathwaite further added that it is the first time in a while that he will get two months to play cricket. This is also the chance to catch a rhythm in between. The Windies player is looking forward to getting stuck in with the franchise and grab a good rhythm.
Carlos got famous when he hit four consecutive sixes off Ben Stokes to clinch the 2016 T20 World Cup for West Indies. He admitted that he needs to get back into the rhythm first. Carlos stated that probably it is not right at the moment because of the traveling and quarantine situation. So, hopefully, things can start early. The all-rounder is just looked ahead to win some games with the Sixers.
Sydney Sixers will begin their title defense against Hobart Hurricanes on December 10
When asked about the pressure of being the defending champions, the Caribbean all-rounder nonchalantly responded that there was no pressure on him. He further added that when you start to think too far ahead, you tend to lose sight of the process. We have done extraordinary things as a team last season to win the Big Bash League title. Hence, this time it just a matter of replicating that.
Last year with Sydney sixers was very different from what will happen in the upcoming season. This season there will be more focus on the psychological stuff, he explained.
Carlos also featured in the Caribbean Premier League back home in September this year. He played for Jamaica Tallawahs and claimed ten wickets in 11 matches for the franchise. Carlos, however, struggled with the bat. He would be keen to improve on when he will play for the Sixers.
The West Indies all-rounder can play a crucial role in the Sydney Sixers campaign. The franchise also includes other star performers like Sean Abbott, Tom Curran, and Moises Henriques but they will be unavailable initially due to international duty.
Perth Scorchers is the most successful BBL franchise in history. The team has grabbed the three titles so far. Chris Lynn currently holds the record of scoring most runs in the league, scoring 2,332 runs.
