In an unexpected twist, one of the great batters, Shaun Marsh has formally announced his retirement from professional cricket. Currently, Marsh is playing for Melbourne Renegades in Big Bash League (BBL) 13. The experienced cricketer shared this news with his teammates over the weekend, indicating that his last match in the Big Bash League will be against the Sydney Thunder.

The South Paw’s recent performance was truly outstanding, securing an unbeaten half-century and earning him the prestigious Player of the Match accolade. This exceptional showing played a pivotal role in the Melbourne Renegades' six-wicket triumph over the Melbourne Stars on Saturday night at Marvel Stadium, nearly concluding his remarkable journey in BBL 13 with three half-centuries.

"I have loved playing for the Renegades, I've met some great people over the last five years and the friendships I've made will last a lifetime. This playing group is special. They've been amazing to me, amazing teammates and even better friends. "Our members and fans are some of the most passionate out there and I'm so thankful for their support over the journey. Stick with us, there's a huge amount of talent in this group and I have no doubt they'll lead this group back to the top. To the Renegades' coaches and staff and everyone behind the scenes - thank you for backing me in from the start and over my final years. It's made my job a little easier out in the middle,” Marsh said as quoted by Renegades' official website.

A career like Shaun's is not easily replaced: James Rosengarten

Marsh’s unbeaten half-century in Melbourne Renegades' recent victory over the Stars at Marvel Stadium served as a fitting conclusion. Marsh has also played 38 Test and 73 ODI appearances for Australia, the southpaw has left an indelible mark on the cricketing landscape. In the BBL, he stands as the sixth-highest run-scorer, accumulating 2810 runs with an impressive average of 40.72 and 27 fifties.
