In a major setback for Chennai, star pacer Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the Indian T20 League 2022. The team's 14 crore buy was recovering at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore after he suffered a quadricep injury during the T20 series against West Indies in February. Chennai had purchased him shortly before the injury at the mega auction. It was speculated that he would return to the team by the end of April. However, he is now set to miss the entire tournament after picking up another injury, this time on the back.
In Chahar's absence, Chennai suffered heavily as they lacked a genuine wickettaker, which resulted in the team losing their first four games. They managed to win their last game against Bangalore. "He (Deepak Chahar) had also started bowling in the nets at the NCA in Bengaluru, but the fresh injury will keep the man, who was bought by CSK for Rs 14 crores, out for quite a while," a report from the Times of India said.
In other news, Kolkata has named Harshit Rana as the replacement for Rasikh Salam. The pacer played two games for Kolkata this season before suffering a lower back injury. He has been ruled out from the rest of the tournament. In another development, Patrick Farhart, Delhi's physiotherapist, has tested positive for COVID-19. He is currently being monitored by the Delhi Medical Team.
Meanwhile, Chahar's injury has been a massive setback for Chennai. Their bowling attack has not been up to the mark as Dwayne Bravo is their highest wicket-taker, with just seven wickets. They lack experience in their bowling department, which is clearly seen on the field. A replacement for Deepak Chahar is likely to be announced soon.
