After facing a crushing defeat of nine wickets in the third of the four-match Test series against Australia; the Indian camp is looking a bit serious and concerned ahead of the fourth and last Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Notably, India’s lead of 2-0 has now come to 2-1 after they lost the Indore Test to Australia.
Meanwhile, the management including the skipper, Rohit Sharma, and head coach, Rahul Dravid are planning to make some changes for the upcoming Ahmedabad Test against the Aussies. They are also considering Team India’s preparations for the ODI World Cup 2023 coming later this year.
Coming back to the Test series against Australia, the Indian skipper, and coach are considering including the senior pacer Mohammed Shami in the playing XI of India for the last Test. Shami might make it to the playing XI in place of star pacer Mohammed Siraj. Notably, Siraj is also a part of India’s World Cup plans.
Umesh Yadav is likely to make it to the playing XI of the Ahmedabad Test
So, the performer of the Indore Test, veteran Nagpur pacer Umesh Yadav might join Mohammed Shami in the Ahmedabad Test against Australia.
A report in PTI understands that “the Indian team management, in consultation with its medical staff, has decided to space out the pace bowlers, who are going to play the IPL and are in the ODI World Cup plans. Hence Shami, who had played the first two Tests and is also a part of the ODI squad, was rested for the third game. In his place, Umesh Yadav was drafted in as the second pacer after Mohammed Siraj.”
To qualify for the final of the Test Championship 2023, India are ought to win the fourth and last Test of the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy. A margin of 3-1 is must require for Rohit Sharma’s men to secure their berth in the title clash of the second edition of the Test Championship.
Apart from that, their fate also relies on the result of the upcoming two-match Test series between India and Australia.
