In a major development, Jasprit Bumrah has been appointed as India's captain hours ahead of the rescheduled fifth Test match against England. Rohit Sharma had tested positive for Covid-19 a few days back. As a result, he will miss the all-important match. Rishabh Pant has been named the vice-captain for the fifth match.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the announcement on Twitter before the game day. "NEWS. @Jaspritbumrah93 to lead #TeamIndia in the fifth Test Match against England. @RishabhPant17 will be the vice-captain for the match," read the tweet.

While the skipper of the squad has been decided, the opening combination for the Indian team is still to be determined. Mayank Agarwal had been called in as a stand-by when Rohit tested positive. He is likely to open the batting along with Shubman Gill.
In the meantime, this is a rescheduled Test from India's tour of England in 2021. A covid outbreak in the visitor's camp had delayed the fifth and the final Test match. The Indian team currently leads the series 2-1. This match will decide the course of the series. Notably, India has not won a Test series in England since 2007. They will be eager to win the match and the series as well.
On the other hand, the England team is coming out of a great win against New Zealand. In the three-match series, they whitewashed the Kiwis. They will be aiming to replicate their performance against India as well.
Under the new leadership of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum, England has played aggressive cricket and has looked determined to win every match. They have now named their lineup for the game against India. James Anderson and Sam Billings made it to the playing XI, whereas Jamie Overton and Ben Fokes have been dropped.
