In a shocking development for the Indian cricket fans, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the rest of the Asia Cup 2022. It happened with only two days left in India's first encounter in the Super Four stage. At this point, it is yet to be determined whether Pakistan or Hong Kong will play against the Men In Blue on September 4.
Meanwhile, Jadeja was an instrumental figure in India's win against their arch-rivals on August 28. In that game, he gave away only 11 runs in two overs and scored 35 runs to win the nail-biter game. In the next game against Hong Kong, the left-hander took one wicket and gave away only 15 runs in his four-over spell. At this stage, there is no update on when the 2013 Champions Trophy winner sustained the injury.
It can be believed that he got injured during the Hong Kong game. Now that he is ruled out of the remaining tournament, Axar Patel, who is also a left-hander all-rounder, has been named as Jadeja's replacement.
Notably, Patel was part of the team as a standby player. Now, he has been inducted into the playing squad of 15 players. Meanwhile, in a statement released by the Indian Cricket Board on their official website, Jadeja sustained a right knee injury and is under the supervision of the medical team.
“Ravindra Jadeja sustained a right knee injury and is ruled out of the tournament. He is currently under the supervision of the BCCI medical team,” Indian Cricket Board said in a statement.
It can be safely said that Axar Patel might get to play a game straightaway in the tournament.
