In a piece of major news for the Indian team, Ravindra Jadeja will miss out on the T20 World Cup. The star all-rounder will undergo knee surgery which will keep him out of the mega event in Australia later this year.

Jadeja, who played the first two games of the Asia Cup against Pakistan and Hong Kong, provides the team with the necessary balance, and his absence will be a significant blow to Rohit Sharma's side.

"Jadeja's right knee injury is pretty serious. He is supposed to undergo a major knee surgery and will be out of action for indefinite period of time. At this point, if one goes by the assessment of the NCA's medical team, one can't put a timeline on his imminent international comeback," a senior BCCI official was quoted saying by ESPN Cricinfo.

It was not immediately clear if it was a case of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), which can take up to six months to recover from. However, it is safe to assume that Jadeja will be out of the game for at least three months. It is believed that Jadeja's knee problem has been present for some time. The thumping on his right knee while landing on his front foot while bowling is thought to have had an effect.

India in the Asia Cup 2022

In the meantime, the Indian team is currently in the super four stages of the Asia Cup 2022. The Rohit Sharma-led team will take on arch-rivals Pakistan for the second time in the inter-continental tournament. The first match between the two turned out to be a thriller as India managed a win only in the last over.

In the chase, Ravindra Jadeja was crucial with the bat. He scored 35 runs in 29 balls and built an important partnership with Hardik Pandya. The latter produced a brilliant display with the bat and the ball to win the match. The second match between India and Pakistan will take place on September 4th at the Dubai International Stadium.
