In what it seems to be a major blow for the Indian team, they are likely to miss the senior pacer from the squad of the second of the four-match Test series against Australia. Notably, both teams will play this match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Friday, the 17th of February next week.

Earlier, the hosts defeated Australia by a big margin of an inning and 132 runs to take a lead of 1-0 in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The senior pacer was released from the squad of Ranji Trophy obligations

The All-India Senior Selection Committee has come to a conclusion with the Indian Team management that the veteran pacer Jaydev Unadkat will not be a part of the Indian Test squad for the Delhi Test against the visitors. Although the selection committee hasn't named any replacement for Unadkat so far.

Speaking of the reason for Jaydev Unadkat’s omission from the squad of the Delhi Test, he will be playing for Saurashtra in the final of the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 starting from Thursday, the 16th of February. Saurashtra played the second semi-final of the tournament against Karnataka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium Stadium in Bengaluru.

In the absence of regular skipper Jaydev Unadkat, the team played under the captaincy of stand-in skipper Arpit Vasavada. The 34-year-old middle-order batter led the team from the front by smashing an amazing double century in Saurashtra’s first innings to help the team take a lead of 120 runs in the first innings.

Later on, Dharmendrasinh Jadaeja and Chetan Sakariya scalped four wickets each in the second innings of Karnataka to bundle the latter only on the score of 234 runs.

While chasing the target in the fourth innings of the match, the stand-in skipper Arpit himself took the charge and played an unbeaten knock of 47 runs to help the team easily chase the target of 115 runs by scoring 117 runs for the loss of six wickets.

Saurashtra under the leadership of the regular skipper Jaydev Unadkat will play the final of the Ranji Trophy against Bengal.
