The surprise package for Kolkata in the Indian T20 league 2022 so far has been Umesh Yadav. He has been simply sensational for them in both their games. Generally considered a good Test bowler, Yadav is showing his critics that he can be a good T20 bowler as well.
His exploits with the new ball have been superb in particular. So far, he has picked four wickets from the two games. He won the player of the match award during the tournament opener against Chennai as well.
Thus, Kolkata's coach Brendon McCullum had heaps of praise for the pacer. He also spoke about Yadav's skills with the new ball. While mentioning that he has played alongside the Indian pacer during his days as a player, McCullum said he is a wicket-taker in the team.
"Umesh Yadav has been simply outstanding. I was lucky enough to play with Umesh when I was still playing the game back then and I knew how good a bloke he was and how much of a talent he was, especially with hee new ball if there was assistance. His brief is very much to try and take wickets for us. If he goes for a few runs, we don't care, we just want to have the attacking mentality," said Brendon McCullum, as quoted by India Today.
He also called Yadav a "huge asset". McCullum spoke about how the pacer is still very fit and hungry. He also said that the Vidarbha pacer is an important part of their plans going forward. Thus, it will be exciting to watch Yadav play in this edition of the Indian T20 league.
"In two games, he has done more than we could have asked for. Yadav has done a wonderful job and, hopefully, that continues. "I know he is closer to the end of his career. But he is still incredibly fit, very very driven and we see him as a huge asset for us, especially in the early stages of the tournament when the ball is still swinging and seaming," he added.
