With their deteriorating performance, Chennai Super Kings is dealing with many issues currently in the ongoing IPL season. The skipper, MS Dhoni, who has led the team to be IPL champion on three occasions, struggles with the bat. And this is one of the major concerns for the team. The wicket-keeper batsman has failed to score runs in IPL 2020 so far. In their last game against Kolkata Knight Riders, Dhoni scored merely 11 off 12. Moreover, he couldn’t end the game for his team.

The West Indian batting legend Brian Lara revealed his concern about this on the Star Sports post-match show. CSK was cornered at a score of 157/5 in 20 overs, while they were chasing 168 runs made by KKR. Speaking on the show, Lara expressed that Dhoni should find out other players who can take over the role of a finisher for his team.

“It’s a bit puzzling (Dhoni inability to finish). You feel that he has created that position where he can be flexible with himself but I think he needs to maybe look at some other players,” Lara said. “He (Dhoni) is a great finisher, no doubt about that. But things are not going right for him and I believe, some of the other players, look at Jadeja how he batted today, he came in when their chances were very slim. So, something he will have to work on, have steadier stuff.”

Dhoni hasn’t been able to perform in IPL 2020 so far

In IPL 2020, CSK has played 6 games so far. And Dhoni has taken the bat in five games as he didn’t get the chance to bat against Kings XI Punjab. During that match, Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis partnered and led CSK to win that match. Dhoni has scored 0*, 29*, 15, 47*, and 11 in the 5 games he batted. He promoted himself and came down to bat at number 5 against KKR. But, sadly, Varun Chakravarthy dismissed him. This was not his first instance of not being able to finish the game. When playing against Rajasthan Royals earlier, the CSK skipper struggled and came close to finish the game. However, he failed to get the job done despite his three sixes back-to-back in the final over.

After the CSK’s innings against KKR, Lara said that he believes something is wrong with the team and the strategies they are applying during this IPL. Lara is hopeful that CSK will sort out its issues soon and the fans will witness a good performance in the future.
