India are in deep trouble at the World Test Championship (WTC) final as they are reeling at 151-5 at the end of day2. The scores for the top four Indian batters did not make a good reading. Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli got out for 15, 13, 14 and 14 respectively. Rohit did not have a good start to the WTC final as he got out leg before to Pat Cummins. Going by the replays, it appeared that Gill and Pujara gave their wickets away.
Pujara has been in great form in County cricket, of late. But it has to be noted that Pujara scored all his runs in Division 2 County cricket where the bowling attacks were mediocre and were not up to the standards of Australia. Pujara and Gill left balls alone that hit the stumps and they were clean bowled. The tall lanky Cameron Green uprooted Pujara's stumps. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri lambasted Pujara for his poor judgement.
Pujara did not know where his off stump was and it was very disappointing to see - Ravi Shastri
"That is leaving it poorly because the front foot has just gone across. It should be going towards the ball; he was looking to play it and then decided whether he should leave it. You see, the way he is leaving it, the off stump is exposed. Shastri said on air. The front foot is still middle stump when it's actually going towards off stump. Watch that front foot. It should be further across and towards the ball. He thought it was outside the off stump. It was an error in judgment," Shastri added during commentary.
The way Pujara got out would have made many Indian fans very sad given his class and experience in various conditions. Pujara has been with the Indian Team for a long time now and was touted as the next Rahul Dravid at the start of his Test career. The way Pujara got out did not please Shastri one bit as he expressed his frustration about the way Pujara was dismissed.
"We talk about leaving the ball in England and we always talk about knowing where your off stump is. This is not knowing where your off stump is. Pujara will be very disappointing seeing that. It should have been a little further towards the ball and across the line of the ball," Shastri further reiterated.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter:

Yes but dont talk about rohit who is failing for a long in IPL and test coz he is bombay …shastri bias is clearly showing

Rightly said, He was there for a long time and playing County cricket but failed when it mattered, No excuse for such a lame dismissal and even Gill should be disappointed he is a professional cricketer so he should know which one to leave and which one to play

I feel both Pujara and Kohli are past their prime in test format. Don't see them dominating the bowlers like we used to see earlier.

both @stevesmith49 and @cheteshwar1 were there in england practicing and difference between them is clearly visible, aur BC jo isko Rahul dravid se compare karta hai na kud jao kue mein.

And yet this captain, coach & selectors don't have guts enough to look beyond superstar celebrity seniors like Rohit, Virat & Pujara.

If they loose (looks likely now) .. then overhaul of test XI setup needed.

Pujara, Rahane need to go.
ideally R0hit shd also but since he is Captain 😒
Gill shd be at 3
new opener/s needed (not KL)
new no.5 (not SkY, may be Iyer temporary)
dnt fast forward Jaddu at 6
No one will say that players looked tired after long IPL season and Australian were most fresh and prepared.

Pujara is a done batsman and an absolute liability on the team now. Post that Australia win down under he has just managed to score a 50. What's the point in scoring 100 in a county when you can't score for your national team.

Entire top order should be disappointed. Failing again and again.

It's very painful to watch as a cricket fan.
