Ace England opener Jason Roy has been ruled out of the 20-20 World Cup owing to a calf injury. Roy had picked up the injury during England's final league game against South Africa. The batter could not continue batting and had to retire hurt after scoring 20 off 15 balls. He was taken for scans that revealed a tear and Roy’s fate in the tournament was sealed. Meanwhile, England have named James Vince as a replacement for Roy. Vince is also a specialist opener and likes to take the attack to the opposition, much like Roy. He had travelled with the team as a reserve player.

Meanwhile, Roy said he is gutted to miss out on the remaining games and hoped that England can go on to win the 20-20 World Cup. The opener revealed he will give himself the best chance to recover before the West Indies tour next year. “I’m gutted to be ruled out of the World Cup,” Roy said. “It is a bitter pill to swallow. I will be staying on to support the boys and hopefully we can go all the way and lift that trophy. It has been an unbelievable journey so far and we have to continue expressing ourselves and concentrating on us.

“The rehab has already started and even though I’ve torn my calf, I’m going to give myself the best chance of being ready for the T20 tour of the Caribbean at the start of next year.”

England have played exceptional cricket in the 20-20 World Cup. They won four back to back games before their juggernaut was halted by South Africa. However, that didn’t stop them from qualifying as the top-ranked team from Group A. The Three Lions will take on New Zealand in the semifinal on November 10.
