There have been a lot of speculations regarding Jasprit Bumrah's availability for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. With just 22 days remaining for India's first match in the tournament, fans have been worried about India's death bowling. Bumrah's back injury has added to their worries.
The 28-year-old is currently out of the series against South Africa and recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. Amidst all this, the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has hinted that Bumrah can still be a part of the squad that travels to Australia. "Bumrah is not out of the World Cup yet," Ganguly told a news channel, as quoted by My Khel.
An Indian Cricket Board official previously told PTI that Bumrah has a stress fracture and could be out for months. "Bumrah is not going to play the World T20 for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for a period of six months," the senior Indian Cricket Board official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
However, K Srinivas Rao, a reputed journalist, later revealed that there was nothing to worry about. He said that Bumrah is under good care and that he might still fly to Australia.
"Was travelling last couple of days so missed out on quite a bit. So, all those worried about the possibility of Jasprit Bumrah missing the World Cup… please don’t be. He is in very good hands & the word coming out right now is extremely positive — he may fly. Fingers (crossed)," he tweeted.
In the meantime, India will begin their World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on the 23rd of October at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Their last T20 World Cup encounter was terrible for India as Pakistan registered a 10-wicket victory. The Rohit Sharma-led team will want to do better this time around.
If Bumrah does play in the tournament, he will play a significant role for the Men in Blue.
