Indian middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav is currently in Colombia with the squad for the series against Sri Lanka. The limited-overs series has currently been postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the Sri Lankan camp. Both the teams are scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is during the series.

It seems like any other normal series that the Indian team would play. But it is extremely important for certain players. The main Indian team led by Virat Kohli is currently in England for the five-match test series against the host. So, a new-look Indian team is in Sri Lanka for the limited-overs series.

Even though they are not India’s first-choice players, they are talented and have immense potential. However, some players would make their international debut for India during the Sri Lanka tour. But some of them have previously played for the Indian Team.

One such player is Suryakumar Yadav. Unfortunately, he has played just one international series so far. But in this tour, he can establish himself worthy of playing internationally for the national team.

In a recent interview, Virat Kohli expressed his desire of opening with Rohit Sharma. So the number 3 spot would have to be filled by someone. Suryakumar Yadav would be the perfect player to play at number 3. Therefore, the Sri Lanka series is important for him. There are numerous talented new players in the squad. Only the best performers would get the chance to play in the T20 World Cup.

Suryakumar Yadav is one of the best Indian T20I players

Yadav can rotate the strike and hit big shots at crucial moments. It makes him a desirable player on-field. His performance in the last few IPL seasons has also been excellent. So many cricket experts and fans are eager to see him play for the national team.

In the 2018 IPL season, he scored 512 runs at an average of 36.57 and a strike rate of 133.33. Many experts and fans were impressed by his performance. But some thought that he is probably a one-season wonder. Nevertheless, he easily proved them wrong in the upcoming seasons.

In the 2019 IPL season, he made 424 runs at an average of 32.61 and a strike rate of 130. 86. However, he had failed to get selected in the Indian team even after two impressive IPL seasons.

It would have broken many players' confidence but Suryakumar Yadav did not lose hope and came back stronger in the next season. His performance in IPL 2020 made it impossible for selectors to not choose him to play for India. He made 480 runs at an average of 145.01 in the IPL 2020 season.

Suryakumar Yadav can play against spin well and has an aggressive batting style. Moreover, he can rotate strikes. His addition to the Indian team for T20 World Cup would add variety to the batting line-up and give stability to the middle-order. If he performs well in the series against Sri Lanka then he would most probably get selected to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
