Kylian Mbappe

In a recent piece of news, coach Didier Deschamps has appointed the young prodigy Kylian Mbappe as the new captain of the France national football team. The 24-year-old happened to accept this decision from the coach after having a few discussions with the latter. Earlier, the national side of France was going through a void as the former skipper and veteran goalkeeper Hugo Lloris called it a day in his international career; back in the month of January.

Notably, Lloris led the team for more than a period of 10 years before hanging his boots in international football at the age of 36. The veteran center-back Raphael Varane was also one of the stars who announced their retirement after the final loss against Lionel Messi’s Argentina in December 2022. To fill the void of Varane, French management appointed the senior attacker Antonie Griezmann as a deputy to Mbappe in the national team.

Although the fans couldn’t take Mbappe’s appointment as skipper very easily; they thought it would be too early to hand over such a big responsibility to a youngster only at the age of 24 just on the grounds of a heroic final performance in the FIFA World Cup 2022. Fans took to Twitter to come up with multiple reactions and expressions. Some of the fans also demanded that it should be Griezmann who would’ve been very fit for the captaincy role instead of Mbappe.

Here's how fans reacted:

Speaking of his short but very illustrious career, Mbappe made his first international appearance for France six years back in the year 2017; under the coaching of Didier Deschamps. Notably, Mbappe would be completing his six years in international professional football on the upcoming 25th of March.

Since his debut, the star center-forward has made 66 international appearances for France so far and scored 36 goals to his name. He also became only the second footballer in the history of the FIFA World Cup to score a hat-trick in the final after England’s Geoff Hurst, who achieved this feat in the World Cup in 1966.
