The struggling Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) are set to welcome high-flying St Lucia Kings (SLK) to the Providence Stadium in Guyana for the 27th match of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022.  Neither team had a strong start to the competition, but only one of them was able to turn their fortunes around. 

The Warriors are languishing at the bottom of the table, having won just two of their seven matches in the league. With only five points to their name thus far, they are out of contention for progression to the playoffs. The Kings, on the other hand, have enjoyed a recent resurgence that has seen them win their last three matches. They now have four wins and four losses from eight games. They currently sit second on the points table and would seal a playoff berth if they emerge victorious in this game.

A win for the Faf du Plessis-led Kings will see them seal a playoff berth, while Shimron Hetmeyer’s Warriors have only pride to play for.

Saint Lucia Kings: 

Johnson Charles and Faf du Plessis are the players to watch for Saint Lucia. Top-scorer, Charles has amassed 342 runs at an average of 48.86 and a healthy strike rate of 135.17. Du Plessis, on the other hand, has 188 runs in seven innings, striking at a whopping 167.85.

As for the bowling unit, Alzarri Joseph leads the charge with 15 wickets in the tournament thus far. David Wiese has also chipped in with nine scalps in addition to contributing with bat in hand.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

For the Warriors, captain Shimron Hetmyer is the leading run-scorer with 149 runs at a healthy strike rate of 127, with seven sixes and eight fours. South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen has also scored 118 runs at a strike rate of 137. Klaasen’s countryman Tabraiz Shamsi has been the pick of the bowlers for the Warriors, picking up eight wickets at an average of 12 and an economy rate below 6 runs an over.
