Kolkata's 52-run win over Mumbai comes as a huge sigh of relief for them. This victory has ensured that they remain in the race for the playoffs, and live to fight another day. It was a comprehensive effort from the Shreyas Iyer-led side as they bundled the five-time champions for 113 in the second innings.
As for their batting, Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana were superb. However, it is to be noted that the Kolkata-based franchise have made a lot of changes to their playing XI in the recent past. They have kept axing players from their side, and have already tried out a lot of playing combinations in this edition.
Thus, Shreyas Iyer drew light on the same. He stated at it indeed is hard to tell players about their axing. Further on, he went on to make a big statement about Kolkata's team selections. He revealed that the CEO is involved in selecting the team as well. However, Iyer did mention that all of them are very supportive in decision making.
“It’s really difficult. I was also in that position once when I started playing ITL. We discuss with the coaches, CEO is also involved in team selection. Baz (Brendon McCullum) goes to the players and tells them if they are not playing. All of them are very supportive of the decision-making. The way they turn up to the ground, each and every individual in the playing eleven, it’s something to be proud of as a captain," said Shreyas Iyer during the post-match presentation.
In the meanwhile, he was happy with their victory over the Mumbai-based franchise. He stated that it was a comprehensive win. Iyer then said that the players were charged up to win this game. Kolkata are now scheduled to face Hyderabad on May 14.
“The way we played with high spirits and a good vibe, I’m proud of it. The win was comprehensive. The players were charged up to win the game. The previous games have not been great for us. It plays on your mind when you are on the losing side. I’m not satisfied but I want to keep up with the same momentum to come back strong in the other games," he added.
