In what comes as shocking news, Chris Cairns has been diagnosed with bowel cancer. Post a series of several health issues last year, the New Zealander was dealt with another big shock. He took to Instagram to inform everybody about the same.

Cairns, who happens to be the son of former Test player Lance Cairns, has played 62 Tests and 215 ODIs for New Zealand. While he made his international debut in 1989, he played his last game for the Black Caps in 2006. In his Instagram post, Cairns revealed that he was told about his cancer during a regular medical checkup.

"As far as weeks go, I thought that Tom Brady retiring was going to be the low point this week… but as it turned out, TB12's retirement comes a distant second. I was told yesterday I have bowel cancer…big shock and not what I was expecting after what was supposed to be a routine checkup," Chris Cairns wrote on Instagram.

"So, as I prepare for another round of conversations with surgeons and specialists, I keep remembering how lucky I am to be here in the first place…and how blessed I am to have all that I do in my life. Wasn't all bad this week either, managed to get in some kids sport and celebrate (son) Noah's birthday at home. Another fight ahead but here's hoping this one is a swift upper cut and over in the first round," his post further read.

It is to be noted that Cairns suffered an aortic dissection in his heart attack in August 2021. He was also kept on life support during that time. His legs were left paralyzed after suffering a stroke in the spine after the surgery.
