Punjab Kings skipper KL Rahul praised legendary batsman and stated that Chris Gayle knows which bowler to target. KL Rahul’s remarks came after he and Chris Gayle formed together an unbroken 79-run partnership. The duo helped PBKS to a comfortable 9-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in an IPL 2021 match in Chennai on Friday. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 60 off 52 balls whereas Gayle played his part with a patient 43* off 35 deliveries. The Jamaican batsman came out to bat in the eighth over. Before his arrival to the crease, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal had given Punjab a solid start in their chase of 132. KL Rahul and Chris Gayle understood the conditions brilliantly and performed accordingly. Their 79-run partnership was the backbone of PBKS’ match-winning chase.
The wicket-keeper batsman was awarded the Man of the Match award for his brilliant 60*. On the other hand, Chris Gayle was also pleased with how the PBKS batsmen fared against the defending Champions. Punjab Kings easily chased the target in 17.4 overs. The wicket was a difficult one to bat on: KL Rahul
PBKS captain KL Rahul, speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, accepted that the wicket was a difficult one to bat on. He further added that the ball was sticking onto the surface. The Karnataka batsman also praised young spinner Ravi Bishnoi. The 20-year-old made his first appearance of IPL 2021 after being benched for 4 games. Shockingly, despite being impressive last season, the youngster was not included in the playing 11 for the first few games.
The leg-spinner made an instant impact removing Ishan Kishan in his first over. He then managed to dismiss another set batsman, Suryakumar Yadav. KL Rahul also reckoned that Ravi Bishnoi has been working with the coach and former legendary spinner, Anil Kumble. The youngster remained calm when the Mumbai batters looked to attack him.
Punjab Kings is currently at the fifth position in the IPL points table with 4 points from 5 matches. The Punjab Kings squad will now head to Ahmedabad, where they play their next four games of the season. The first of those games is against the two-time IPL winners Kolkata Knight Riders. On the other end, Mumbai Indians now have a six-day break before heading to Delhi to face the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Thursday.
