Chris Gayle is arguably one of the greatest cricketers ever played in the history of the Indian T20 League. The former Caribbean southpaw played for various teams in the tournament including the likes of Kolkata, Bangalore, and Punjab in the later part of his career in the cash-rich Indian T20 tournament.
He played 13 seasons in the tournament out of the total of 15 editions played so far and registered various historic T20 records to his name with the bat. He still owns the record for the highest individual score in an inning during the Indian T20 League.
Notably, Gayle has also the highest number of sixes to his name in the 15 years history of the tournament. He smashed 357 Maximums which is way too much more than the 251 sixes smashed by AB de Villiers, who is in the second spot on this list.
But who would have imagined there would also be a bowler who can trouble the ‘Universe Boss’? The answer is yes and recently, Gayle himself was named the toughest bowler he ever faced since the inception of the India T20 League 15 years back in the year 2008.
You just can’t seem to get him - Chris Gayle
While picking his choice of hardest bowler for him, the 43-year-old left out the renowned Indian off-spinners and veterans of the game, Harbhajan Singh and Ravichandran Ashwin. Subsequently, he named Jasprit Bumrah as the toughest bowler he played against in the Indian T20 League.
"Bumrah absolutely. I am not going to pick an off-spinner like Bhajji or Ashwin, but definitely Bumrah. You just can’t seem to get him. Difficult to play his slow ball, his variations are very, very unique. I pick Bumrah,” said Gayle while replying to a question from the former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris.
Speaking about the competition between Bumrah and Gayle, the former made his debut way later than the Caribbean legend. The duo had played against each other in 10 appearances and Gayle could score only 37 runs off 48 balls against the Indian pace spearhead.
