South African all-rounder Chris Morris is now the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League. He was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 16.25 crores. Although Morris was anticipated to earn big, it was a surprise the amount he was bought for. It was more than 21 times his base price (Rs 75 lakhs). He also surpassed former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh who was bought by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 16 crores in 2015.

Rajasthan Royals' Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara, stated that although the price of the all-rounder was on the higher side, he was happy to have Morris for his ability to finish the games with the bat. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians showed interest to buy the services of the Proteas all-rounder. However, RCB pulled out at Rs 10 crore, and the bidding continued between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals. The all-rounder was finally sold to the Jaipur-based franchise.

Former RR skipper Steve Smith joined Delhi Capitals for Rs. 2.20 crore

Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube was also elected by the Royals for Rs 4.4 crore. Sangakkara mentioned that the franchise was explicitly looking for someone like Shivam for the middle-order spot. The Royals also bought the services of Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rehman. The team picked him at his base price of 1 cr. The Jaipur-based franchise has also roped in Chetan Sakariya, a left-arm pacer from Saurashtra. The youngster has already made a name on the domestic circuit, and the Royals were quick to buy him for 1.20 crores.

Royals continued their outgo with the purchase of English opening batsman Liam Livingstone for 75 Lakh. Akash Singh was bought back by the franchise for 20 Lakh. Meanwhile, former Royals skipper Steve Smith was taken by Delhi Capitals for 2.20 Crore. The Devils also acquired the services of England all-rounder Tom Curran, for 5.25 Crore.
