Chris Gayle is one of the most aggressive batsmen. He is a Jamaican cricketer who played international cricket for the West Indies. Gayle is a record maker in all the three formats of the game. He proved to be the crowned player for the West Indies and is the only player to hit triple centuries in Tests, double hundred in ODIs, and a hundred in T20s.
Gayle's early career
Christopher Henry Gayle was born on 21 September 1979. He started playing for Lucas Cricket Club in Kingston, Jamaica, at an early age. He claimed that if Lucas Cricket Club had not nurtured his talent, he would have been on the streets. Gayle became the captain of the West Indies team in the ICC T20 World Cup in 2009. He made a quick score of 88 runs in the tournament's opening game and claimed a victory over the mighty Australian team.
International Career
Gayle made his debut in First Class Cricket at the age of 19, for Jamaica in 1998. He got given a chance to play his first One Day International just after eleven months, and he played his first Test match after six months. Thus, he played the three formats at a stretch in the season 1999- 2000. His start in international games was not very fast, but he invigorated it in the year 2002. He hit three centuries against India. He was the third West Indian to score 1000 runs in a calendar year.
In 2005 he was dropped for the first Test against South Africa due to some dispute with the sponsors. He returned to play the second Test, but he scored poorly in the second and third Test matches. He showed his prowess in the fourth Test when he scored match-saving 317, the first triple century. Gayle is the eighth-highest scorer in Test cricket and the ninth West Indian player to have played more than 100 Tests.
World Cup Record
Many records had gotten smashed in the 2015 Cricket World Cup. Gayle broke one of such records. He created history by scoring a double century in a World Cup by hitting 215 against Zimbabwe. Many of the blooming cricketers made their career in cricket with the help of T20 matches, and Gayle is one of them. He is the only batsman who has made the highest score of 8,000 runs in the T20. He has played almost every T20 league in the world and has created history with his scoring.
Underrated all-rounder
He not only proved himself to be one of the greatest batsmen, his performance as a right-arm off-spinner got ignored. He has 160 ODIs wickets and 70 Test wickets to his credit.
Another aspect of his personality is his charity. Gayle never tight-fisted to make donations. He started the Chris Gayle Academies in Jamaica and London to impart quality education, training, and employment. Despite all the controversies he had to face, no doubt Gayle is one of the most charismatic cricketers in the world.
