After whitewashing the West Indies side in the ODI series by 3-0, India and West Indies went head to head in the first T20I of the five-match series on Friday. West Indies, after winning the toss, decided to bowl first, showing confidence in their batters.

India came up with a big surprise at the start with Suryakumar Yadav opening with Rohit Sharma. Both gave a good start to the Indian innings taking the team to 44 before the first wicket fell. Suryakumar, opening for the first time, made 24 off of 16 balls and looked well settled.

Number three batter Shreyas Iyer, however, could not build on his good showing in the ODIs and departed on a duck. India’s hero in the third ODI against England, Rishabh Pant also could not find his touch and went for just 14.

Captain Rohit Sharma had held the fort from one end and reached his another half-century to take India to a decent score. The score of 127-5 was still not enough when Rohit was dismissed. It came down to Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja to take Men in Blue to a good score. Both the batters, however, failed to do that.

It was again India’s finisher, Dinesh Karthik who came up with a quickfire 41 off of just 19 balls with a strike rate of 215 along with Ravi Ashwin (13*) to take India to a massive 190/6.

Coming onto chase what looked like a big score, West Indies got a good start from their openers Kyle Mayers (15) and Shamrh Brooks (20) but both of them could not build upon that.

It was the same story with all of the West Indies batters who got off to a good start but could not come up with good scores. Spinners, Ashwin and Ravi Bishnoi played out the West Indies batters after Arshdeep Singh scalped two wickets. West Indies could only manage 122/8 in the end and lost the game by a massive 68 runs.

Twitter was buzzing with India’s win more so because West Indies were expected to give a bigger fight as they did better than expected in the ODIs.

Let’s look at some of the tweets after the India’s win.

The Hardik, DK, Jadeja combo is working well for India. The presence of Hardik allows India to play Jadeja and Jadeja's ability to bat at any no allows DK to play his role perfectly
