'Cometh the hour Cometh the man' - Fans praise Ishan Kishan for his fighting half century against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2023

The most-awaited showdown between India and Pakistan commenced at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele as part of the Asia Cup 2023 on Saturday, September 2nd. The match began with overcast conditions with rain interruption which indeed affected the Indian batting which saw their top order falling like a deck of cards.

At one stage the Indian team were struggling at 66/4 with all the top order batters getting to some hostile fast bowling from Pakistani bowler. But then in walked Ishan Kishan who was batting at number five for the first time in his international career. The prolific left-hand batter looked in superb touch throughout his innings and the best part of his batting was that the southpaw never looked to play defensive cricket.

Ishan right from the word go took the attack back to the Pakistan bowling and made sure that pressure was never really on both the batters. Despite the 25-year-old batter missing his well-deserved century and got out for a well-compiled 82 runs off just 81 deliveries which consisted of nine boundaries and two humongous sixes.

The top order tumbled to some terrific fast bowling from Pakistan pacers

India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat despite the threat of rain. Pakistan's Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi took advantage of overcast conditions, with Afridi in particular displaying his prowess. In the fifth over, Afridi breached Sharma's defense, toppling his stumps with a deceptive delivery. Virat Kohli, who followed, briefly showcased his class with a cover drive before falling victim to Afridi in the next over.

Despite the early setbacks, Shreyas Iyer played aggressively, but Haris Rauf dismissed him with a short ball. Shubman Gill also struggled, scoring only 10 runs off 32 balls before falling to Rauf. With India at 66/4, Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan attempted to stabilize the innings and set a competitive target for their bowlers to defend. Their partnership became crucial as India aimed to recover from a challenging start against Pakistan's formidable bowling attack.
