The Indian contingent has won nine medals at the Commonwealth Games 2022 so far. India would be looking to add to their medal from the last edition and better their performance this year.
Weightlifting has done the heavy lifting for India at the Commonwealth Games, winning seven of nine medals. Others sports are expected to bring in medals for the country as well with a lot of events left in the CWG 2022.
Before that, however, let’s look at India’s performance from Day four of the Commonwealth Games.
Weightlifting
Weightlifting added another medal to India’s tally when Harjinder Kaur won Bronze in Women’s 71kg. She achieved the third spot with a total lift of 212kg (119+93).
Ajay Singh missed the bronze by a whisker when he failed to lift his final clean and jerk attempt of 180kg in the 81kg Men's category.
Hockey
India clashed with the hosts England in Men’s group match. India’s lead of 4-1 was snatched back by England to level the match 4-4. With this draw, India sits at second while England stay at first in the group.
Judo
Judo came up as the second sport to win a medal for India after Weightlifting. Shushila Devi lost to South Africa’s Michaele Whitebooi in the final to take home the silver medal.

Vijay Kumar Yadav brought home Bronze in Men’s 60kg category in Judo. In the quarterfinal match, Yadav defeated Christodouildes of Cyprus.
Table Tennis
Indian men’s table tennis team have reached the final after defeating Nigeria in the semi-final. The duo would be going against Singapore in the final.
Badminton
Indian badminton mixed doubles have also landed into the final with a win of 3-0 over Singapore. In the final, India will go against Malaysia for a chance to win Gold.
Squash
Sunayna Sara Kuruvilla has entered the Semi-final after defeating Sri Lanka’s Chanithma in Women’s Quarterfinal by 3-0. Elsewhere Joshna Chinappa lost to Hollie Naughton to crash out of the quarterfinal. Sourav Ghosal with a quarterfinal win have moved to Sem Final beating Scotland’s Gregg Lobban by 3-1.
Boxing
In his first bout, Amit Panghal defeated Namri Berri by 5-0 in Men’s 51kg round. In the 57kg round, Hussam Uddin Mohammad defeated Md Salim Hossain by 5-0 to get into the last eight of the Men’s 57kg category.
Thus, India has won nine medals in the Commonwealth Games, with weightlifting bringing seven and Judo bringing in the rest two. Australia occupies the top spot with a total of 71 medals. England (54) and New Zealand (24) are two and three respectively.
