In what comes as shocking news, Commonwealth Games 2022 silver medalist Pooja Sihag lost her husband as he was found dead. The name of the deceased was Ajay Nandal, who was found dead on August 27. His body was found late at night after which the Rohtak police and an ambulance rushed to the spot. Now, the body has been for a post-mortem.
Speaking on the tragedy, Rohtak Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Mahesh Kumar has said that the deceased father has alleged that his son died due to a drug overdose. He alleges that his son's friend Ravi might be involved in this.
"Ajay Nandal's body was sent for post-mortem. His father has alleged a drug overdose involving Ajay's friend Ravi. The incident took place near Maharani Kishori Jat Kanya Mahavidyalaya," DSP said.
Ravi is now a person of interest in the death of his friend, Ajay. At the time of writing, more details are yet to arrive. Meanwhile, Sihag recently won the silver medal in the CWG games in Birmingham in the 76 kg category.
Pooja Sihag and Ajay Nandal got married last November
Notably, the duo got married on November 21 last year. Nandal was a former wrestler and an army officer by profession. Talking about Pooja, she came into the limelight months before her marriage after winning a bronze medal in the Asian Wrestling Championship. She beat South Korea's Seoyeon Jeong.
She started wrestling at the age of 11 in 2011 at the Alkesh Sports Academy. Three years later, the then-teenager won a bronze medal in the Junior Asian Championship. For the next couple of Colts Asian Championship, she kept bagging bronze medals. In 2017, she had an operation on her left knee. However, it didn't stop her from winning the silver in the Junior CWG games in South Africa. The next year, she played in the senior Commonwealth Championship in the rainbow nation.
Talking about her educational qualifications, she is a Bachelor of Arts graduate from LM University in Rohtak.
