St Kitts and Nevis Patriots won their maiden CPL title on Wednesday defeating the St Lucia Kings in a nerve wracking final. Dominic Drakes played a blinder of a knock (48* off 24) in the chase to stun the opposition. The Patriots' skipper Dwayne Bravo was delighted after securing the title in his first season with the franchise and credited the youngsters for having the belief that they can win.
160 was also the highest successful chase ever in the CPL final. Speaking after the match, Bravo highlighted that it was the result of backing given to the players and the belief they had to win the tournament. "Belief - we gave the people opportunities. All I asked the guys was to back each other - It doesn't matter whether we perform or not, play or not play, let's support each other, let's stay tight, let's stay together.
"Giving young players the belief and opportunity - especially Drakes. In my first net session I had with Drakes, I told him: 'You're not an emerging player, you're one of my main players'. All these guys who have come in, even the overseas guys, whether they play or not, the energy on the bench is good," he said according to ESPNCricinfo.
Dwayne Bravo lauded the efforts of the whole side while also calling the fans and supporters of the Patriots as 12th man. "[I] want to commend my team. This is for them. Without them this wouldn't have been possible. To my entire team and owners and most of all the fans of St Kitts - they deserve this, they come out in numbers, were our 12th man, and this is for them," the Patriots skipper added.
With this win, Dwayne Bravo has now won 15 T20 titles in his career, the joint-most alongside Kieron Pollard who is another legend in the shortest format of the game.
